EXWEx Works
The seller delivers by placing the goods at the buyer\u2019s disposal on its own premises. It is not required to load them onto the collecting vehicle or clear them for export. The buyer bears all costs and risks from that point. Any mode of transport.
FCAFree Carrier
The seller delivers the goods, cleared for export, to the carrier nominated by the buyer at the agreed place. Since 2020 the parties may agree that the carrier issues an on-board bill of lading to the seller. Any mode of transport.
CPTCarriage Paid To
The seller contracts and pays for carriage to the named destination, but risk passes to the buyer when the goods are handed over to the first carrier. Any mode of transport.
CIPCarriage and Insurance Paid To
Same obligations as CPT, plus the seller arranges insurance. Since 2020 it requires all-risks cover (Institute Cargo Clauses A) unless otherwise agreed. Any mode of transport.
DAPDelivered At Place
The seller delivers when the goods are placed at the buyer\u2019s disposal at the destination, ready for unloading and not cleared for import. Replaces the former DDU. Any mode of transport.
DPUDelivered at Place Unloaded
The seller delivers once the goods are unloaded at the agreed destination. It is the only rule that requires the seller to unload. Replaces the former DAT. Any mode of transport.
DDPDelivered Duty Paid
Maximum obligation for the seller: delivery at destination with import duties, taxes and formalities paid. Any mode of transport.
FASFree Alongside Ship
The seller delivers by placing the goods alongside the vessel at the agreed port of shipment, cleared for export. Sea and inland waterway transport only.
FOBFree On Board
The seller delivers the goods on board the vessel nominated by the buyer at the port of shipment, cleared for export. Risk passes once the goods are on board. Sea and inland waterway transport only.
CFRCost and Freight
The seller pays freight to the port of destination, but risk passes to the buyer once the goods are on board at origin. Insurance not included. Sea and inland waterway transport only.
CIFCost, Insurance and Freight
Same as CFR, plus the seller arranges insurance with minimum cover (Clause C) unless otherwise agreed. Sea and inland waterway transport only.
ICC Incoterms® 2020 rules, in force since 1 January 2020 and still the current edition: there is no 2026 edition. DAF, DES, DEQ and DDU were removed in the 2010 revision and should not be used in new contracts.
